Biography

Cynthia Walling settled in the Republic of Texas before February 19, 1846.

Birth Cynthia was born about 1819 in Mississippi. She was the daughter of John Walling and Anna Chisum.^[1][2]

Marriage Married James Bell in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee in 1834.^[1] Children based on census records:

• Elizabeth (Bell) Hamilton b c1837
• John C. Bell b c1841
• Jessee Bell 1843-1931^[3]

Move to Texas James and Cynthia move to Texas before 1837 when their daughter, Elizabeth is born there.^[4]

1850 Census Living in Rusk County, Texas with spouse, children and two others. Her husband, James is a shoe maker with a personal estate of $450. NOTE: the children's birthplace of Delaware is an indexing error. After the census taker recorded Elizabeth's birthplace as Texas he wrote Do for the birthplace of the other children to indicate ditto as he did throughout the census.
