Biography
Ernst Maria was born in 1736 in Styrum Castle, the second the son of Christian Limburg- Stirum and Caroline Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst, though he had older half brothers from his father's first two marriages. He died in Frankfurt am Main in 1809.
He inherited Oberstein and Stirum from his older brother, Philipp Ferdinand who died in 1794. Oberstein was lost to the French the same year. In the "Final Recess" or "German Mediatisation" of 1806 Styrum was mediatised to the Grand Duchy of Berg.
He married Sophie Charlotte von Humbracht (1762 - 1805) in 1783, but they had no children. After his wife's death in 1805 he intended to marry her sister, Maria Margaretha von Humbracht (1755 - 1827), but died on his way to Frankfurt. He left the lands of the former Lordship of Stirum to her.
