Biography
Sarah was born in 1812 in South Carolina. She passed away in 1897. Various genealogies show her as a daughter of Andrew Broyles (1775-1845). It is uncertain where this idea arose but it may have to do with the following:
- Sarah and her kids are found living in Mississippi, not very far from Andrew Broyles who lived in Fayette County, Tennessee.
- Andrew has a slot for a child born in 1812 as Sarah is.
- Sarah's son John Baxter lived in Hardeman County, Tennessee, adjacent to Fayette.
The difficulty with this is that there is no evidence of Andrew ever living in South Carolina where Sarah and her children were born. It appears he was living in Alabama at the time of her birth. There were just two Broyles families living in South Carolina. If Sarah is a Broyles it would seem she must be an unknown granddaughter of Maj. Aaron Broyles (1767-1845) or his brother Joshua Broyles (abt.1772-abt.1834).
