Biography

William was born 1834 , the son of William Mc KENNA Mary Mahoney

Good morning; Over the weekend, I managed to go through and sort out my paper work re: family history. I came across - a copy of a statement from the Supreme Court Probate Collection - 1990. As we know William McKenna died August 1892, Judith wasn't granted anything until July 1895. Something must have been holding the estate up. Normally, it is transferred to surviving partner, unless he had children previously to their marriage that we don't know about, or they lived separately ???

  • WELLINGTON. (Gazette). Death of Mr. W. McKenna. - All people (particularly old residents) will regret to hear that Mr. W. McKenna, whose illness was mentioned in our last issue, died at two o'clock on Monday morning. Less than three weeks ago he met with the unfortunate accident which caused his death. His left thumb was cut badly, and tetanus set in. Another of the old Wellington land marks has gone. Deceased was born in Sydney on the 23rd February, 1834. He was the son of Mr. W. McKenna, a well-known tailor of the period. He came to Wellington with Mr. Hycronimus in about the year 1849. He was married in 1856,then having the mail contract between Wellington and Dubbo. For a long time afterwards he carried on business as a butcher in this town. Latterly he performed the duties of Inspector of Nuisances under the Council, in which capacity he never exceeded his duly nor made himself obnoxious in any way, and it may safely be said that he never had an enemy nor tried to make one. He was liked and respected by everyone. He leaves a widow, three sons, and three daughters to mourn their loss.

  • .- I regret to have to announce the death of Wm. McKenna. He met with an accident to one of his hands a few weeks back, but very little notice was taken of the injury. However, after about a fortnight, the injury became considerably worse, and symptoms of blood poisoning and eventually lockjaw set in, and the sufferer died in great agony on Monday last. Deceased was a very old resident of this town, and his funeral was largely attended.
