Biography

Axel was born on the 24th of August 1853 in Kristinestad, Finland. His parents are unknown.[1]
Note: His surname is listed on Australian records most often as "Ronlund", but sometimes appears as "Pihlajavita". At this time his Finnish birth record has not been found, so "Ronlund" will be used as the last name at birth.

In about 1888, he married Matilda Peurala in Isojoki, Finland.[1][2]

After reaching Australia in around 1900, Senja and Victor were born in Queensland under the surname Pihlajavita.

In 1904, he was naturalised as an Australian citizen, along with his wife and seven children (three boys and four girls at the time).[1] They all began to use the surname Ronlund around this time.


His main occupation was as a dairy farmer.[1][3]


He passed away on the 11th of November 1938 at hospital in Innisfail, Queensland and was buried at Innisfail Cemetery.[3][4][5]
