Biography

Hannah was born about 1789. She was married to James Lee.[1]

She died after being enumerated in Hawkins County, TN, for the 1850 US Census, but no records have been found of the date or place of her death.

Also, no primary sources have been found for the names of her parents. (see Research Note)

Research Note

(This note added by Ken Bashford-1806 on 17 Sep 2023)

I have not seen any primary sources establishing the parents of Hannah (Hale) Lee. However, I have attached her to the profile of John Haile (1734-abt.1816) as the daughter of John and Hannah (Poteet) Haile/Hale.

UPDATE, 9/29/23: After making several changes in the Haile-73 profile, I’ve changed Hannah’s attachment from Haile-229 to John Haile (1743-bef.1817). The remainder of this Research Note was not affected by this change — KB

I have inferred this relationship from the following:

  • This profile for Hannah establishes evidence for Hale as her LNAB.
  • This Find a Grave citation shows Hannah (Poteet) Hale, wife of John, having only one daughter and naming her Hannah: (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/195245166/john-hale: accessed 17 September 2023), memorial page for John Hale (1734–1816), Find a Grave Memorial ID 195245166, citing Buffalo Ridge Cemetery, Gray, Washington County, Tennessee, USA; Maintained by Charles Welsh (contributor 48882687).
  • Hannah Lee’s birth year of 1789 (from the 1850 Census at source 1) is consistent with the birth and death years of John and Hannah (Poteet) Hale.
  • James & Hannah Lee of Hawkins County were living in close proximity to John Hale/Haile at the time of John’s death in Washington County in 1818.
  • I could not find a record or reference for any other ‘Hannah’ or ‘Hannah Hale’ that fits these circumstances.

  • This reference establishes ‘Hale’ as Hannah’s last name before she married James Lee. As a contemporaneous account initially published while its subject was still alive, this profile of Thomas Lee-27407 (James and Hannah’s son) has some credibility. • This Find A Grave page for Hannah does not have grave marker photos and does not point to any supporting documentation for the information provided. However, some evidence for the 3 children listed is provided in the profile for Hannah’s husband, James Lee-35479.
