Helen was born about October of 1889 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Charles Noon and Minnie Van Soelen.
Note that in some of Helen's records her father's place of birth is given as England. Since he was born in London, Ontario, Canada, that London could well have been interpreted as London, England without the information that he was born in Canada -- and he was born in British North America because Canada had not been organized into a federation yet.
It appears that she married Patrick Leonard on 15 June 1910 in Chicago, Illinois. Patrick was nearly her mother's age. [1]
In 1920, Helen and Patrick Leonard were living next door to Minnie Noone and her youngest children in Crystal Lake, McHenry County, Illinois. [2] There are no parents' names on the marriage summary for Helen, but the 1920 census gives evidence that it was Minnie's daughter Helen who married Patrick Leonard in 1910. Helen and Patrick had one son, Ralph, age 8.
In 1930, Helen was enumerated as Helen N. Leonard, age 38, divorced, in Chicago, Illinois at the Belmont Hotel on Sheridan Road. She was working in real estate investments at the time. Her son Ralph is not in this entry. [3]
In 1931, Helen Leonard, the widowed daughter of Charles Noone and Marie Van Sollen, married J. Harold McKee, who was much more her age. [4] He was born in Iowa, but they were married in Manhattan, New York.
On 19 August 1935, Helen and J. Harold McKee returned to New York on the S.S. Queen of Bermuda from Hamilton, Bermuda. Their address was given as 1222 Malbury Ave., Muscatine, Iowa. [5] It appears that they were struck off a later sailing that was due to arrive on 26 August 1935. Was there a particular reason why they returned home one week early?
James Harold McKee died in June of 1936 in Rochester, Minnesota. [6] He was the president of the McKee Button factory that made pearl buttons in Muscatine, Iowa, where he was buried. The obituary on the FAG memorial confirms that he was married to Helen Noone Leonard of Chicago, in New York City, and that she survived him when he died in hospital of lung cancer.
