Biography

John was born 16 Mar 1857 in Tennessee. He was the son of Jesse Jeter and Susan Poindexter.

In 1860 he was living in the Northern District, Bedford, Virginia, United States.[1] The household included Jesse R Jeter 30, Susan M Jeter 25, Emma A Jeter 8, Samuel C Jeter 5, and John S Jeter 3. Jesse was a farmer. Daughter Emma was born in Virginia; sons Samuel and John were born in Tennessee. According to Smiley[2], the family moved from Tennessee to Coleman Falls before the start of the Civil War.

In 1870 he was living in Forest, Bedford, Virginia, United States.[3] The household included Jesse R Jeter 40, Susan M Jeter 35, Emma A Jeter 18, Saml C Jeter 15, Jno S Jeter 13, Mary E Jeter 9, Jesse C Jeter 6, and Rosa B Jeter 3. Jesse was a farmer.

John S Jeter and Emma F. Wilson were married on 3 December 1879 in Bedford, Virginia, United States. He was the son of Jesse R. Jeter and Susan Jeter.[4]

In 1880 he was living in Forest, Bedford, Virginia, United States.[5] The household included John Jeter 22, and wife Emma Jeter 18. John was a farmer. Jesse Jeter and Osson Knight were neighbors.

In 1900 he was living in Washington Township, Harrison, Missouri, United States.[6] The household included John Jeter 43, wife Emma F Jeter 41, son John W Jeter 16, daughter Dellie M Jeter 13, son Fred E Jeter 10, and daughter Allie Jeter 1. John and Emma had been married 20 years. Emma was the mother of 6 children, all living. John was a farmer. Son John was a farm laborer.

In 1910 he was living in Washington, Harrison, Missouri, United States.[7] The household included John S Jeter 53, wife Emma Jeter 49, son Wesley Jeter 23, daughter-in-law Abbie Jeter 28, and daughter Allie Jeter 11. John and Emma had been married 27 years. Emma was the mother of 6 children, all living. Wesley and Abbie had been married less than a year. John and Wesley were farmers.

In 1920 he was in Lincoln Township, Harrison, Missouri, United States.[8] The household included John S Jeter 62, and wife Emma Jeter 60. John was a farmer.

In 1925 he was living in Decatur, Iowa, United States.[9] The household included John S Jeter 67, and wife Emma Jeter 65. John was the son of Jesse Jeter and Susan Poindexter, married in Bedford County, Virginia. Emma was the daughter of William Wilson and Mary Taylor, married in Bedford County, Virginia.

He died 11 Feb 1926 in Van Wert, Decatur County, Iowa[10] and is buried in Leon Cemetery, Leon, Decatur County, Iowa.[11]
