Obituary

Father of 19 Dead. Jacob Sherk Passes Away After a Long Illness.

After a lengthy illness Jacob Sherk, of 1607 North Fourth Street, died yesterday afternoon at his home, aged 77 years, from heart failure. He was the father of nineteen children, eight of whom are dead. Two sisters, Mrs. Lida Barton and Mrs. Polly Wolf, of this city; his wife, Mrs. Susie A Sherk, and the following children survive; Mrs. Mary Brenaman, Penbrook; William Sherk, Penbrook; Mrs. Susan E Laser, Bremen, Ind.; Jacob B Sherk, Harrisburg; Simon D Sherk, Harrisburg; George F Sherk, Bremen, Ind.; Mrs. William O Hosan, Harrisburg; Miss Ellen Sherk, Newport, Pa., and Harry A Sherk, Harrisburg. He is also survived by thirty-one grandchildren.

Mr. Sherk was born at Manada Furnace in 1832, being the son of Jacob Sherk. He was a carpenter by trade and had lived in Harrisburg nearly all his life. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the house, Rev. J. Rauch Stein officiating. Internment will be made at Raysor's Church graveyard, near Penbrook.
