Biography

Alfred was born in 1814. He passed away in 1892.

Birth: He was born on 15 June 1814 in North Carolina.

Marriage: He married Harriett (Dover) Hicks on 2 September 1832 in Habersham County, Georgia. [1] The family was living in Murray County, Georgia in 1850 and had moved to Whitfield County by 1860. [2] [3] [4] [5] Harriett and Alfred relocated, with some of their children, to Comanche, Texas in the 1880's.

Children: Census records indicate they had seven children (some trees show two more but with no sources):

  1. Henry Kimsey Hicks (1837-1914)
  2. James Jarrett Hicks (1839-1926)
  3. Jackson Marion Hicks (1841-1868)
  4. Jonathan William Hicks (1844-1882)
  5. William P Hicks (abt.1846-bef.1860)
  6. Anderson D Hicks (1849-1850)
  7. Nancy Louisa (Hicks) Nance (1857-1914)

Death: He died on 25 March 1892 in Comanche, Texas. [6]

Burial: He is buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Comanche, Texas. [7]

Research Notes

Almost all online trees indicate his parents are Elijah Myers Hicks (1790–1880) and Elizabeth (Eliza) Farmer (1800–1850). This seems speculative at best. They did not get married until 8 years after Alfred was born. There are no sources tying Alfred to Elijah and if he's the father then Eliza is probably not the mother as she would have been 10 - 13 when he was born.
