Mr. Charles Orris died at his home in Ickesburg, Saturday, Feb 4, at 9:15 p.m. from general debility. He was a son of Samuel and Elizabeth {Rice} Orris and was born at the old homestead April 16, 1847. At his death he was aged 80 years, 9 months and 18 days.
He was married to Margaret Titzel, Jan. 30, 1868. To this union seven children were born six boys and one girl, namely, Edward Orris, Henry L. Orris, Charles A. Orris, Rufus Orris, Newton Orris, living; David C. Orris and Clara, Mrs. James Boden, are dead.
He joined the Reformed Church at Seville, May 2nd, 1863. After moving to Ickesburg he had his membership transferred to Ickesburg Reformed Church. In the church he served as an elder but on account of being quite hard of hearing he was deprived of much pleasure in church and state. He was a farmer by occupation and was a man above the ordinary in intelligence. He served as school director and always took an interest in the cause of education.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 10 o'clock at the home, conducted by his pastor, Rev. S. W. Beck. Burial was in the old Buffalo Graveyard, where his parents, brothers and sisters are buried. Mr. Orris was the last member of the family.
