Sarah (Lewis) Johnson was born in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

Sarah Ellen "Etta" Lewis was born in Nov 1872 in White County, Tennessee;^[1] daughter of William J Lewis and Martha C (Howard) Lewis.^[2] [See Research Notes below regarding her date of birth.]

On 1 Jun 1880,^[2] S. Ellen Lewis (age 10) was living in District 2, White County, Tennessee in the household of her father, Wm. J. Lewis, with her mother and siblings (listed in table below).

On 9 Feb 1890 in White, Tennessee,^[3][4][5] Etta Lewis married J. B. Johnson.

On 1 Jun 1900,^[1] Etta Johnson (age 27, born Nov 1872) was living in Civil District 2, White County, Tennessee in the household of her husband, John B. Johnson, with their children (listed in table below). Etta and John had been married for 10 years; Etta had born 3 children who were currently living.

Etta Johnson's youngest known child, Stella Mae Johnson, was born on 28 Nov 1904.^[6]

Research Notes

• date of birth - the extant primary sources are mildly inconsistent about when Etta was born. Currently, there are only 2 sources that indicate her date of birth, as follows: i) 1880 federal census^[2] enumerated on 1 Jun 1880 - age 10; and ii) 1900 federal census^[1] - age 27, born Nov 1872. If Etta was born in November (as per 1900 census), and the 1880 census was then accurate about her age, then it would suggest that Etta was born in Nov 1869. • death - currently, there are no primary sources that record when & where Etta died. However, Etta' youngest known child, Stella Mae Johnson, was born on 28 Nov 1904.^[6] Hence, Etta most likely died between the birth of her last child on 28 Nov 1904 and 15 Apr 1910 (when the 1910 census was enumerated).
