Major Lewis Cheek was born on June 26, 1822, in Franklin, Georgia. He was the son of William Martin Cheek and Sinthia Coker. his father, William, was 69 and his mother, Priscilla, was 52. He married Barbara Crider in Georgia on January 31, 1839. They had five children together. Barbara passed away on February 28, 1853, in Madison, Georgia, at the age of 32. They had been married 14 years. He then married Mary Jane "Polly" Coker in Georgia on June 12, 1856. They had four children together. In 1861 he enlisted in Company B, 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment. He served as a musician. Major Lewis Cheek died in 1891 in Girard, Alabama, when he was 69 years old.
