Christopher was born in 1891. He was the son of Christopher Maltby and Jessie Capper. He passed away in 1980.
Senior Officer in the British Indian Army from 1908-1946. After attending the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, he was commissioned into the 9th Jat regiment of the Indian Army in 1910. He served in the Persian Gulf until the 1st World War where he served on the Western Front. There he was wounded, awarded the Military Cross (MC) and was thrice mentioned in dispatches, After the 1st world War in 1923, he went to the staff college in Quetta, He served on the North West Frontier in India having several Indian appointments, In the 2nd World War, he commanded several Indian brigades until August 1941 when he was made Commander of British Troops in China. He established a 10 mile line of defence across mainland China but was forced to withdraw his troops back to Hong Kong. The Japanese bombarded Hong Kong Island which forced the British troops to surrender on 25th December 1941. He was a prisoner of war from 1941-1945. In 1953, he was granted a commission as Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset (DL) where he spent his remaining years. Awards were: Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) and the Military Cross (MC)
