Gertrud was the daughter of Berengar von Sulzbach and Adelheid von Wolfratshausen. Nothing is documented of her birth, which must have been before 1118[1] but after 1112 if the Fundatio Monasterii Baumburgensis is to be believed which dates the death of Berengar's first wife to that year: Adelheid von Frontenhausen wanted to be buried at the Stift Baumburg which was founded by her but not completed until 12 years after her death but before 1125, and following her wishes she remained unburied for 12 years.[2] Gertrud married Konrad von Staufen[3][4] possibly before 1134 since the Fundatio Monasterii Ebracensis named the couple as supporters of the building of the monastery which was completed in 1134.[5][6] She died in 1146[7][8] in the Imperial Abbey Hersfeld.[9]
