Biography

Mary Barne was a daughter of John Barne and Jane Langton.[1]

Her year of birth is unknown and is estimated as c 1555-1560.

She was the granddaughter of Sir George Barne (Lord Mayor of London in 1552).

Marriage and Children

She married Francis Roberts of Willesden, Middlesex.[1] The marriage took place on 20 Nov 1575 at Woolwich, Kent:[2]

"Memorandum I Frauncis Roberts tooke to wiffe Mari barne the dafter of John Barne esquier, and was maried at wollwiche the xxth of November beinge Sonndaye Anno Domini 1575. laus deo. Amen."

They lived at Neasdon/Neasden in the parish of Willesden, Middlesex.[2]

Will of Dame Mary Judde

In the will of Dame Mary Judde of Latton, Essex, the will made on 20 Feb 1596/1597, published on 13 Jul 1601, and proved on 19 Feb 1601/1602[7] the Testatrix made bequests including to:

  • Mr John Barne my sonne in lawe, and Jane his wife my daughter;
  • Francis Roberts and Marye his wife my grandchild.

Death

Mary was buried at St. Mary's Willesden, Middlesex, in 1623/4.[8]

She is recorded in the monumental inscription to her husband in St. Mary's Church, Willesden: [Source?]

HERE LYETH YE BODYE OF FRANCIS ROBERTS LATE OF WILSDON IN YE COUNTIE OF MIDDELSEX ESQ. WHO HAD TO WIFE MARYE ELDEST DAUGHTr & ONE OF YE COHEIRES OF JOHN BARNE ESQ. BY WHOM HE HAD 9 SONS & 7 DAUGHTrs. HE LIVED TO YE AGE OF 80 YEARS & 7 MONETHS & DEPARTED THIS LIFE YE 5th DAY OF SEPTEMBr 1631
