Johnnie Ambrose Kelley was born on 30 March 1927 in Clarke, Alabama, United States.^[1] He was the son of James Braddy Kelley (1900–1951) and Averilla A. Gilchrist (1898–1995).^[2][3]

Johnnie Ambrose Kelley died in a drowing on 12 June 1963 in Stockton, Baldwin, Alabama at the age of 36.^[2] He was buried in New Live Oak Cemetery, Selma, Dallas County, Alabama.^[3][4]
