Biography

Birth and Parents

Boyer and Lloyd show Iasedd ap Carwed as the son of Carwed and grandson of Marchudd. [1][2][3][4] These names come from pedigrees and little specific information is known of them.

Iasedd and Jaseth are forms of the same name.

Croslegh shows Jaseth ab Carwed ab Marchudd descended from Marchudd, Founder of the Eighth Noble Tribe of North Wales. [5]

Pedigree and Date Estimation

Carl Boyer affirms that very little is known about some of the persons in Genilles' line of descent, which can be portrayed as follows, with estimated dates:[1] These dates are highly speculative and intended only to serve as a check on other dates provided in popular genealogies.

  1. Cynan, born, say, 860
  2. Marchudd, born, say, 890
  3. Carwed, born, say, 920
  4. Iasedd, born, say 950
  5. Inethan, born, say, 980
  6. Edryd had two children, Ithel and Idnerth, born, say, 1010
  7. Ithel, brother of Idnerth, born, say, 1040
  8. Hoedlyw, first cousin of Gwgon, born, say 1070
  9. Genilles, second cousin of Iorwerth, born, say 1100

Marchudd was Lord of Abergeleu and Uwch Dulas, with arms described as: gules, a Saracen's head erased at the shoulders, ppr, wreathed about the temples argent and azure.[3]

Marchudd ap CYNAN (Lord) de RHOS, was Head of one of "Eight Noble Tribes", De Bretagne. [6]

Lands

Jafeth was Lord of Brnffenigl (Abergale) [6]

Uwch Dulas was a commote in medieval north Wales. With the commotes of Creuddyn and Is Dulas it formed the cantref of Rhos. Creuddyn formed its boundary on the north and the Conwy Valley on its west. At one time the cantref of Rhos was a separate Kingdom, then by the 11th century was absorbed into the Kingdom of Gwynedd. It is located in the historic county of Denbighshire. [7]

Abergele [8] is on the north coast of Wales and means the estuary of the Gele river.
