Biography

Flora (Campbell) Campbell Countess of Loudoun is a member of Clan Campbell.

Flora Mure-Campbell, Marchioness of Hastings and 6th Countess of Loudoun (1780 - 8 January 1840) was a British peeress second daughter of James Mure-Campbell, 5th Earl of Loudoun, and Lady Flora Macleod. She succeeded to her father's estate at the age of six years, and was raised by the Earl and Countess of Dumfries, with whom she lived until 1803. She married Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 2nd Earl of Moira (later Marquess of Hastings), on 12 July 1804, and they had five children: Lady Flora Elizabeth(1806-39), George AugustusFrancis, Lady Sophia Frederica Christina, Lady Selina Constantia, Adelaide Augusta Lavinia. He died at Malta, on 28 November 1826, leaving a request that his right hand shouldbe cut off and preserved until the death of his wife, and then be interred on her coffin.Flora Mure Campbell died 8 January 1840.[1]

The Countess of Loudoun, (1780-1840) Was the wife of Lord Moira, the Governor- General of India, who afterwards became Marquis of Hastings. She stayed at St. Helena for a short time, on her passage to England, with her children, Lord Hungerford, and Lady Flora Hastings, whose fate was afterwards so tragic. She was the unwitting cause of Lowe's tactless invitation to Napoleon to come and meet the Countess at dinner. This invitation was sent on May 11th, 1816.[2]

Rowallan under Flora Mure Campbell Rawdon-Hastings

For much of the 19th century, Rowallan Castle lay underused and deteriorating since the family lived primarily at Loudoun Castle. The estate remained in the possession of the Earls of Loudoun until it was sold to the Corbett family in the 20th century (to Archibald Cameron Corbett, in 1901).[3].
