Ray was born in 1934 in Smith County, Texas. He was the son of Garland March and Leona Cooks.^[1]

In 1950 he was living with his parents and siblings in Ellis County, Texas.^[2]

Ray was married to Frankie Doll; they divorced in 1966 after having one child.^[3]

Ray married Vera Lee Hysaw in Kerr County, Texas in 1966.^[4] They later divorced in Kerr County in 1982.^[5]

He passed away in 2019. He was buried in the Garden of Memories North Cemetery in Kerrville.^[6]
