“EDWARD GOODE [6]
“On May 31, at 5:45 o’clock, at his home, 715 Spring St., after an illness of several weeks and some intense suffering, Edward Goode breathed his last. His wife and other relatives of the family were by his bedside. Edward was born in Brosias county, Ohio, in 1860. His mother died when he was but five weeks old. His father died when he was a small boy, leaving him and his brother, two years older than himself, to battle against the discouragements of a cold world. In 1881 he came to Grinnell with Mr. A. Fowler, with whom he had worked at the barber’s trade. Since that time he was lived in Grinnell and worked at his trade. Ed was kind hearted and made many friends, many of whom visited him and tried to comfort him in his last sickness. He was married to miss Anna Craig, May 2, 1887. By this union there was one child,William, who is now two years old. He was converted in March, 1901, and often thereafter expressed his confidence in God and his faith in a life eternal. he was baptized and joined the M. E. Church, and though it was the eleventh hour of his life, he left the testimony of Christ’s being able to save to the uttermost.
“The relatives of the late Mr. Ed Goode desire to express their thanks to the many kind neighbors and friends who assisted and comforted them in their hour of trial, in the sickness and death of their beloved one.”
“DEATH OF ED GOODE.[7]
“On last Friday, May 31st, at 5:45, occurred the death of Edward Goode a respected citizen of Grinnell, Iowa. He had a complication of diseases arising from the la grippe a few months ago. Mr. Goode was born in Indiana in 1860, came to Iowa in 1881 and settled in Grinnell, going into the barber business where he was successful. He was elected janitor of the Iowa house o representatives for two sessions. he united with the M. E. church last winter. He was married to Anna Craig in 1888 of which one child blessed the union. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Stoddard, attended by a large crowd of his friends and neighbors. He leaves a wife and one child and numerous friends to mourn the sad loss.”
There are record discrepancies for where Edward was born:
Edward's Obituary published in Grinnell states that he was born in Brosias County, Ohio. There is no Brosias County (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_counties_in_Ohio) -- either this was a typographical error or a case of mis-remembered information. The county names in Ohio closest to "Brosias" is Brown [3] or Ross [4] counties. Or perhaps the city of Bucyrus, in Crawford County, Ohio is meant? That is in Northern Ohio.
