Jane Smith is a part of US Black heritage.
Jane was enslaved by James Webb Smith in Jackson County, Tennessee, along with her mother Massy and four siblings: Manville, Andrew, George, and Arabella.
James wrote his will on 20 February 1854 and died on 22 May 1856. He named 71 enslaved people, including Jane and her family who were all given to James's son Thomas Smith.
