Biography

William was born in 1798. He was the son of William Bartlett and Angelina Colver. It's uncertain whether the spelling of his name at birth was Bartlit, Bartlet, or Bartlett, as birth or early records have not yet been identified. Bartlit may be the name at birth spelling, or have been an alternate spelling of the surname used by some members of this larger family group. The two spellings may at times appear to have been used interchangeably.

On 20 Dec 1820 in Madison County, Ohio, William C. Bartlit was married by John Shrilds(?), J.P., to Catherine Colver,^[1] apparently Catherine Marie Colver / Culver (1803–1880), a daughter of David Colver (or David Culver) (1764 - 1847). In 1820, David Culver was enumerated in Deer Creek Township, Madison County, Ohio.^[2][3] and Catherine (Callender) Culver (or Katherine (Callander) Colver, spelling variations still may need to be checked).

William passed away in 1878.

There seem to be several possibilities for this David, including: Birth Family Tree on Ancestry: David Colver Bartlett (1832–1860), Birth 22 NOV 1832 Bergen, Genesee, New York, Death BET 1860 AND 1865, Died while serving in the Civil War, Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas; FamilySearch: Birth: 22 November 1832 Bergen, Genesee, New York, Death: 29 October 1862 Helena, Phillips, Arkansas; and two or more other possibilities, e.g. a David C. Bartlett, laborer, 1860 in Aledo, Mercer, Illinois.
