Biography

This profile is part of the Howe Name Study.

George Howe was born 9 April 1795 in Brookfield, Massachusetts. [1]

George married first Sarah Marean on 11 May 1820 in Boston[2] (intentions published in Boston on 26 April 1820).[3]

They lived in Boston, and their children were:

Sarah died 21 Aug 1826 in Boston, and he married second in Brookfield on 29 Oct 1828 Susan Boylston Walker of Brookfield.[6]

Their seven children were[7]

He lived in Boston, Massachusetts where he was a merchant for a time with his brother Jabez C. Howe. Later he was a senior member of the firm of George Howe & Co.

George died in Boston 18 December 1871, aged 75.[15]

Research Notes

The Howe Genealogies incorrectly list George Howe as marrying first Susan B. Walker in Boston on 11 May 1820, and second Susanna Boylston Walker on 29 Oct 1828. The 1828 marriage is welll documented. I have found no trace of a Susan B. Walker marrying George Howe in 1820 or a Susan Boylston as listed here previously

Howe-3137 Walter Howe
It looks like the name of George Howe's first wife is incorrect. The Howe Genealogies and some Ancestry trees are wrong,. His first wife's name was Sarah Marean, not Susan Boylston or Susan B. Walker. I will follow up with sources in the next day or two,
