In the 1880 census, he was six years old and living with his family in Brownsville, Haywood County.[1]
In the 1900 census, he was 26 years old and living in the household of his widowed mother in Brownsville. He was working as a mail carrier.[2]
He married Pazzie Parker on 14 July 1907 in Haywood County.[3]
