Biography

Emma was born in 1853 in Boston. ^[1][2]

On 3 June 1870, Emma lived with her parents , her brother-in-law and sister George F. and Mary E. Hall and their son Lewis C.; and three domestic servants in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. She was attending school.^[3]

On 14 June 1871, Emma applied for a passport. She was 5 ft 5 inches tall, had a high forehead, gray eyes, Grecian nose, small mouth, round chin, brown hair, a light complexion, and an oval face.^[4]

In October 1871, Emma was visiting Paris, France.^[5]

On 3 June 1880, Emma lived with her parents and two servants at 704 Fremont Street in Boston.^[6]

On 1 June 1900, Emma and her mother Elizabeth lived at 42 Fenway in Boston.^[7]

On 29 April 1910, elizabeth Coleman headed a household that included daughter Emma F., grandson Lewis C. Hall, and servants Catherine Murray and Annie A. Larnad[?] at 42 The Fenway in Boston. Elizabeth had her own income and Lewis was a private secretary.^[8]

In July 1912, Emma arranged the donation of nine pieces of art to the Old State House from the estate of Miss C. Alice Baker.^[9]

In January 1920, Emma and lodgers Mary K. Burns and Marie L. Olson lived at 42 Fenway in Boston.^[10]

In May 1920: "Miss Emma L. Coleman of Boston will speak on the story of the Indian missions in Canada and some of the captives taken from early Greenfield, before the Historical Society tomorrow evening."^[11]

Emma sailed from Havre France on 15 June 1927 aboard the S. S. Paris, arriving in New York City on 15 June 1927.^[12]

On 2 April 1930, Emma L. Coleman and servant Mary McDonald lived at 42 Fenway. The house was valued at $25,000 and she had a radio.^[13]

On 15 April 1940, Emma lived by herself at 42 Fenway, the house now valued at $10,000.^[14]

Emma was in an obituary on 21 February 1942 in Allston, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States. She died (age 89) on 20 February 1942. "COLEMAN- In Boston, Feb. 20, Emma L. Coleman, in her 89th year. Funeral services at her home, 42 Fenway, on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1:30 p.m."^[15][16]

Emma is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery and Crematory in Jamaica Plain, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.^[17]
