Samuel was a large man, talked a little broken and always had his buggy loaded with good things for the children when he came to Lancaster. He was well dressed with a bearing of importance suggestive of a well-to-do person. He directed and managed his business but kept hired help to do the work connected with his farms, livestock and mills. His gristmill was located at Carroll and his sawmill was located about one mile N.W. of there.
