Matilda BROWNE was born in 1836 in Tullamore, Kerry, Ireland. Her parents were Henry BROWNE and Sidney HUMPHRYS.
The barque, Strathfieldsaye set sail from London, England on 1 May 1841 via Plymouth on 16 May 1841 with the BROWNE family among the assisted immigrants and arrived in Port Phillip Bay, Colony of New South Wales on 30 August 1841[1][2]. The BROWNE family consisted of parents, Henry (aged 30, Farm servant) and Sidney (26, Farm servant) and their daughter, Matilda (5).
Thomas PRESTON and Matilda BROWNE were married on 28 March 1855 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia[3].
She passed away on 10 January 1911 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia[4] and was buried at the Mount Duneed Cemetery, Mount Duneed, Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia[5].
PRESTON.—On the 10th inst., at her residence, "Sunnyside," Verner-street, South Geelong, Matilda, relict of the late Thomas Preston, late of "Fern Bank," Mt. Duneed, aged 73 years. Peace, perfect peace. The funeral will leave her late residence, Verner-street, South Geelong, on Thursday, the 12th inst., at 2 p.m., for the Mt. Duneed Cemetery. Friends please accept this intimation.

Although her BDM marriage record gives her surname as Browne. her death BDM record has Brown. Also, at the birth of each child she is listed as Brown.
