Biography

Asa Allworth Burnham was an Ontario farmer and politician.

Born in 1808 in Cobourg, Upper Canada, he was the son of Asa Burnham and Sarah Lovekin, who were among the first settlers in Cobourg.^[1] He married Elizabeth Wilmot, the daughter of Samuel Street Wilmot.^[2] In 1851 he was present as the Warden of Northumberland and Durham for the laying of the cornerstone of the Port Hope Town Hall on Sept 9. He was very active in local and eventually national politics. He died in 1873 in Ottawa while serving on the Senate. He died of typhoid pneumonia.

Research Notes

Asa and Elizabeth are reported on ontariogenealogy.com under baptisms of having a son named Arthur baptized in 1857. No proof found as yet. Seymour-4621 Nov 26 2021.
