Biography

Louis P Mantooth was born on 24 Apr 1875 to Edwin James Mantooth and Caledonia "Callie" Watson in Texas. ^[1]

In 1900, at age 25, he was living with his wife and one year old son, Erastus in Lufkin, Texas. They were renting a house and he was working for a saw mill as a bookkeeper. ^[1]

Louis passed away, on 12 May 1908, at the age of 33, in San Antonio, Texas. ^[2] The cause of his death was Autointoxification. ^[3] He is buried in Keltys Cemetery, Angelina County, Texas. ^[4]

Research Notes

When I started editing this profile, the Proper First Name was Louie. All the records that I have seen have his name as 'Louis P'. I edited Proper First Name to Louis and left Preferred Name as Louie. I also added 'P' as his Middle Name. (David Dodd, 22 June 2020)

There are two 1900 Census records for Louis.

The first is the one used here where he is living with his wife, Lela, and there first child, Erastus. They had been married one year.

The second has him living with his parents, seven siblings and maternal grandmother. There are no lines for his wife or son. ^[5]

The only difference in the infomation between the two, is he is a Bookkeeper in the first and a Mercant in the second. All other information is the same. (David Dodd, 22 June 2020)
