Paul Frederick Niles, born 22 Jul 1772 at Groton, Connecticut, was the 5th child of Anna (Avery) Niles (1739-1816) and Thomas Northrop Niles (1739-1796).

He married 4 Aug 1798 at Groton, Connecticut, Sabra (Avery) (1777-1850). They had 7 children, their first five born at Groton, the last two at New York City:
