After a look around the village and a chat with an old inhabitant, Mr John Saddler, we start our return journey just as the light is beginning to fade. The road lies high up on the moor-side and commands a capital view as we proceed. Down in the valley is Yeoman’s Mill, where a good quantity of drill is manufactured, the material of which our white ducks were made in our youthful days. This cloth is largely exported to India and other hot countries, and its manufacture gives employment to 40 hands.

Apparently Ralph was a drayman for Barnsley Brewery. A drayman is according to the Wikipedia article (accessed 4 April 2018) "A drayman was historically the driver of a dray, a low, flat-bed wagon without sides, pulled generally by horses or mules that were used for transport of all kinds of goods. Now the term is really only used for brewery delivery men." "Barnsley Brewery" (accessed on 4 April 2018) available on line through http://doctorale.com/en/barnsley-bitter-back-from-the-past/.
