Edward, born on 08 Oct 1811, [1] was the eldest son of John Scarlett and Mary Thomson. His father owned a number of businesses in Etobicoke and York townships in Upper Canada (Ontario). By 1860, Edward, his father and three brothers owned the land on both sides of the Humber River between Dundas Street and Weston. Scarlett Road is named after the family. Edward never married, and after retiring from the lumber business he operated with his brother Samuel, he moved to Adolphustown where his sister Mary lived.[2]
When Edward Christopher Scarlett was born on October 8, 1811, in York, Ontario, his father, John, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 27. He died on January 20, 1894, in Bath, Ontario, having lived a long life of 82 years, and was buried in Toronto, Ontario.
