Biography

Samuel was born in 1783. He is the son of Joseph Hedges and Margaret Van Metre. He married Prudence Dunlap on 26 Oct 1809. They have 11 children: Abraham, William, Sarah, Martha, Rachel, Sarah Jane, Margaret, Prudence, Joseph, Samuel Jr, Elizabeth. Samuel passed away in 1865. Burial in Cadiz Union Cemetery, Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio

Spent about two years raising apple tree seedlings which he moved to Harrison County. He and Prudence lived in a log cabin on a farm about 1 mile from Cadiz. Grandfather was once chewed out by “a woman he had never known” for sending their daughters on an errand at the still house to get more whiskey for the men working in the fields.=Entered by Doug Hall.
