Birth

Francis Marion Munsel, called Frank, surname is both Munsel and Munsell, was born on 3 September 1856 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA to Richard Munsel (1821-1885) and Malissa Jane Proctor (1822-1888). He was the sixth of nine children.

He spent his childhood on the farm of his parents in what is now McLeansboro, Hamilton, Illinois. His mother died when he was 21 in 1842 and he married 2 1/2 years later.

Marriage and Family

He married Emily Malissa Farris (1856-1936), daughter of Henry Webb Farris (1833-1859) and Martha Elizabeth Hardesty (1837-1908) on 6 October 1880 in Hamilton County, Illinois.

1. James Thomas Munsel was born on 10 October 1883 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA. He married 1) Ruth M. Brinkley on 3 February 1912 in Indiana and 2) Hazel M. Unknown in about 1924. James died on 3 May 1956 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino, California, USA.
2. Oda Granison Munsel, twin of Snowden, was born on 6 March 1886 in McLeansboro, Hamilton, Illinois, USA. He married 1) Unknown Unknown and divorced before 1930 and 2) Anna Gray (1899-1940) before 1932. Oda died on 3 March 1965 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA.
3. Snowden B. Munsel, twin of Oda, was born on 6 March 1886 in McLeansboro, Hamilton, Illinois, USA. He never married. Snowden died on 14 November 1919 in Cheyenne County, Colorado, USA and was buried in Munsell Cemetery, McLeansboro, Illinois.
4. Martha Lucretia Munsel was born on 30 September 1888 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA. She married John Greenville Viers (1885-1961) before 1912. Martha died on 5 October 1971 in Eldorado, Saline, Illinois, USA.
5. Arthur Munsel was born on 21 April 1891 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA He never married. Arthur died on 28 June 1920 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino, California, USA.
6. Flossie Pearl Munsel was born on 21 July 1893 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA. He married 1) Verner Lincoln Crackel (1892- ) and 2) Levi L. Brooks whom she divorced on October 1976 in San Bernardino County, California.
7. Rosa May Munsel was born on 2 May 1896 in Hamilton County, Illinois, USA. She married 1) Percy Thomas Lee (1899-1960 whom she divorced after 1930 and 2 ) Carl C. Cocke (1902-1968) after 1931 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino, California. Rosa died on 18 October 1985 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino, California, USA.
8. Parish Silven Munsel was born on 16 April 1899 in Crook, Hamilton, Illinois, USA. He married Pearl Lucille Heller (1907-1989) c. 1938. Parish died on 9 May 1941 in Glendale, Los Angeles, California, USA.

The family lived in Crook, Hamilton, Illinois from before the 1900 US Federal Census.

In 1900 they have 7 children at home and Emily says she has given birth to 9 with 9 living. The children at home on the farm are Snoda 14 b. March 1886, Oda 14 b. March 1886, Martha L. 11 b. Sep 1888, Arthur 9 b. April 1891, Flossa P. 6 b. July 1893, Rosa M. 4 b. May 1896 and an unnamed infant son 1 b. Apr 1899 (looks like April)-It would be Parish.

By 1910 the 53 year old Frank and 54 year old Emily have 2 daughters and a son home. Pearl is 16, Rosa M. is 13 and Parish S. is 11. Frank is still farming on a general farm.

The only child they have at home in 1920 is the 33 year old twin son Oda G. who works as a barber. Frank and Emily are both 63 years old & they own the farm which Frank still works.

Death and Burial

Frank died on 1 July 1925 in Crook, Hamilton, Illinois, USA at the age of 68. His wife, Emily lived for about another 11 years.

Buried on 2 July 1925 at Concord Cemetery, McLeansboro, Hamilton, Illinois. The inscribed headstone is joint with wife Emily.
