Definitely more to write about George Webbe Tobin. I do not know of the connection to the pilot but will see if I can research. I have started a profile for the pilot at George Tobin (abt.1799-1874)
Although George Tobin missed the action at Trafalgar due to Nelson sending him on a Caribbean mission, his career has much more to be said for it than the above. His family had connections on Nevis with Lady Nelson's. He sailed with both Cochranes, with Matthew Flinders, and with Francis Austen (Jane's brother who rose to Admiral of the Fleet). Moreover, Tobin ferried troops to the Peninsular War for Wellington.

What I would, firstly, very much like to know is whether the George Tobin who founded the Port Phillip Ships' Pilots was any relation to this George Tobin, RN.

Secondly, it seems very curious that my grandfather John Bartlett Driscoll's step-father was John Tobin, shipwright of London and Newcastle: John Bartlett (Driscoll) Tobin migrated to South Melbourne and married Annie Chapman, a grand-daughter of William Foy, Lightkeeper of Point Lonsdale and Queenscliffe, who had worked with George Tobin, Ships' Pilot.
