Peter took the oath of allegiance to the State of Pennsylvania on 29 May 1778 and was a Revolutionary War Soldier in Captain Bretz's company of Berks County, Penn. Husband of Barbara Lehman 1750-1818 Courthouse records in Berks County, Pennsylvania names Peter's parents as Mathias and Elizabeth (Fix) Bruckle/Brickley. Mathias (born 5/1/1711 in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany) and Elizabeth (born 1717 in Durrn, Baden, Germany) married on 11/05/1736 in Durrn, Baden, Germany. Four of the children they raised were adopted in 1779 from Peter's brother Paulus when Paulus and his wife Catherine passed away and left the children orphaned. John Simon was one of the children adopted. Peter's older brothers, Michael and Paulus, were born in Germany. Peter was the third child and first born in America. Amish residents in Berks County confirmed that the original surname "Bruckle" is pronounced Brickley. -- https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/29617197/peter-brickley
