Biography

Grace Elizabeth Clark was probably born on November 16, 1855 in New Hampshire. (See Research Notes.) She was the daughter of Benjamin Clark and Mary Ann Eaton Clark. ^{[1] [2]}

In the 1870 US Census, Grace is shown living with her parents and four siblings in Newton, Middlesex, Massachusetts. He age is given as 14, indicating that her birth was in 1855 or 1856^[3].

Before 1880, Grace had married William Flagg and had one son. They lived with her parents in Boston, Massachusetts.^[4]

Sometime after 1880 and before 1900, William Flagg had apparently died (or divorced) and she had married Washington Irving Heald. They were living in New Ipswich, Hillsborough, New Hampshire, with her previous son and three more children.^[5]

Grace died on August 22, 1938 and is buried in the Green Cemetery in Carlisle, Middlesex, Massachusetts.^[1]

Research Notes

I can find no record for a girl born to Benjamin and Mary Clark in 1855 in New Hampshire. The date given in this profile is from her sister Edith Clark Chadwick, so is likely to be accurate. A birth record shows a female child born on June 21, 1854 to Benjamin Clark in Pittsfield, Merrimack, New Hampshire.^[2] This could possibly refer to Grace or to her older sister Josephine who was 17 at the time of the 1870 Census and born in Massachusetts, not New Hampshire, so it is not likely.
