Research notes

Note: {geni:about_me} http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=72935558
Around 1974 I had a grade-school assignment to make a family tree. I asked my Grandfather Edgar a bunch of questions, and he told me about his Father, Siegmund; his Grandfather, Benno, and then I asked about his Great Grandfather. He wandering off to the living room, and then came back with the word "Itzy" which made me laugh. I was in grade school... He said that Itzy was a "Tinker"
After all these years, it turns out his name was Itzak -- with his nickname being "Itzy"
-Dan Bodenheimer, great-great-great grandson of Itzy the Tinker.
Itzak Bodenheimer, the father of Benno Bodenheimer and Bernhardt Bodenheimer, is buried in Waibstadt, Germany -- born before circa 1825.

Not confirmed that he was a Tinker, and there could be confusion about the German to English word of his occupation. A tinker was originally an itinerant tinsmith, who mended household utensils -- a trade working with white metals, where a blacksmith would work with iron.

FROM WAIBSTADT
At least three persons with the name Isaak Bodenheimer lived in Waibstadt.
1. Isaak Bodenheimer (died in 1881)
* First Wife: Karolina Bodenheimer (died in 1845)
* Second Wife: Sara Bodenheimer, birth name: Rothschild (died in 1869)
* Isaak and Sara had at least one son: Hermann Naftali Bodenheimer (died in 1869).
* Maybe Seligmann Bodenheimer (died in 1901) is another son.
2. Isaak Bodenheimer (died in 1898)
* For the moment I have no further information about this person.
3. Isaak Bodenheimer (1854-1941)
* Wife: Johanna Bodenheimer
* Children: Hermine, Jenny, Bertha, Berthold, Selma, Wilhelm
I too have some information about Bernhard Baruch Bodenheimer (1851-1922). But I don’t know if this person is identic with Bernhard Bodenheimer for whom you are looking for.
He was the son of Isaak Bodenheimer.
Next problem: I actually don’t know if his father was the first or second Isaak Bodenheimer mentioned above. The third Isaak Bodenheimer is too young for being his father.
The wife of Bernhard Bodenheimer was Adelheid Bodenheimer (1850-1936)
They had several children:
* Adolf (born in 1878) He first moved to Frankfurt, then to USA
* Louis (born in 1879) He first moved to Frankfurt, then to USA
* Siegmund (born in 1881) He died in World War I.
* Hermann (born in 1883) He first moved to Heidelberg, then to USA
* Gustav (born in 1885) He died in World War I.

Maybe the following information also are interesting for you:
In January 2011 was the inaugaration of a memorial stone for the former Jewish citizens of Waibstadt who were deported in 1940 to the concentration camp in Gurs, Southern France. This stone placed near the city hall was initiated and created by pupils participating in our association. Next year there will be installed little memorial stones in front of the houses where Jews lived who became victims of the crimes committed by the national socialists. Since several years these stones are a widespread form of commemoration in Germany. They are called “Stolpersteine” (stumbling stones), look like cobblestones and are integrated in the pavement. These stones bear the name and the dates of birth and death of the victims. The fortune – persecution, deportation, murdering or emigration – also is mentioned. One of these stones refers to the third Isaak Bodenheimer mentioned above. In 1939 he was forced to leave Waibstadt and emigrated to his son Berthold Bodenheimer (born in 1885) to Rotterdam where he died in 1941. Berthold Bodenheimer - together with his wife and his two daughters - was murdered in Auschwitz.
