Biography

William was born in 1807. He was the son of John Bollard and Hannah Johnson. He passed away in 1854. [1]

Born in 1807 at Lidlington Bedfordshire England. William was baptised on 31 March 1807 in Lidlington - Bedfordshire.

William arrived in Australia as a free settler on the ship "PROVIDENCE" disembarking in Sydney on 7 January 1822 with his mother, brothers, and sisters.

The 1822 census had the whole family listed twice. Firstly, the family is shown as living in Sydney. The second listing showed John Snr. and William as employed by Col. O'Connell at Windsor.

According to the journals of Hamilton Hume, William was one of the six men who went with him and William Hovell to explore the route south from Lake George to Port Phillip Bay in September 1824 to February 1825. [2]

He accompanied Hume and Hovell on their expedition to Victoria. [3]

The 1825 General Muster lists William Bollard as employed by Henry Cox at Windsor N.S.W.

The 1828 census shows William as 22 years of age and living at Cobbitty in the Cooke District with his parents John and Hannah.

He was given a 40 acre land grant by Sir Ralph Darling on 15 Dec 1830.

Description Camden Forty acres County of Camden Parish unnamed at Red Bank in the district of Picton Bounded on East by a line North thirty six chains commencing at the South West corner of the Village reserve on the North by a line West ten chains on the West by a line South forty four chains and on the South by Red Bank Creek to the South West corner of the Village reserved as aforesaid 15 December 1830 Authorised by Sir Ralph Darling on the 15th December 1830 and ........... given on the 31 March 1831 ................... Quit Rent 8 pounds sterling per annum commencing on 1st January 1839. NOTE - 1 chain = 20.117 metres

He built and owned a hotel known as the "Farriers Arms" (known as "Milton Villa" in 1907).[4]
