Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, 18th Pennsylvania Governor. Henry was born in Kingston, Luzerne Co., PA; attended Lafayette College in Easton Pa in 1846-48; graduated at Williams in 1849; admitted to the bar at Wlikes-Barre in April 1853. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 52nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services". After the war he was elected as the 18th Governor of Pennsylvania, serving from 1879 to 1883. Appointed additional Law Judge of Luzerne Co. 1867; chairman of the Republican State Committee 1876-77.[1]
