Matthew Aylmer, 1st Baron Aylmer, born about 1650, the second son of Sir Christopher and Margaret (née Plunkett) Aylmer.
He married Sarah Ellis, daughter of Edward Ellis.

Matthew took his Royal Navy commission in 1678, and became a captain in 1679, he became Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet between 1708 and 1720[2]
