John Markley[1] was born November 22nd, 1819 in Barbour County, Virginia (now West Virginia).[2]
John is the namesake of the small town of Markleysburg, Pennsylvania[3]. He originally moved out to the area to work on the National Highway. In 1860, the town of Marleysburg was laid out. Originally the town only had one street, Main Street, and three back streets. However, it has grown since then. Today it is home to a population of 284 as of 2010[4].
He passed away August 20th, 1903 in Markleysburg[5]. He is buried in Connaway Cemetery in Markleysburg[6].
