Samuel was born on 8 October 1802 in Nantucket, Nantucket, Massachusetts. He was the son of Nathan Comstock and Elizabeth Emmett.[1]
Samuel was a 22 year old boatsteerer (harpooner) aboard the whaleship Globe, and was the instigator of the mutiny, which occurred on January 26, 1824, near Fanning Island, 900 miles south of the Hawaiian Islands. Captain Thomas Worth and three other officers were killed. Samuel was killed later by another mutineer.
