George Simon Herrold was born in 1754 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in an area that is now Berks County. His parents were John George Hoeroldt (1728–1803) and Anna Maria Benesch (1725–1802). The surname began to transform from Hoeroldt to Herrold during Simon's generation.
He married Maria Elizabeth Kerstetter in about 1778. Their children included:

Military Service:
In 1779 during the American Revolution, George was found in the muster rolls for Captain John Moll's Company, belonging to the Third Battalion of the Northumberland County Militia.[1] The following needs to be verified. Two possible records have been reported, but not properly documented. Benfer-47 11:19, 25 January 2015 (EST)
1780 - Ensign in Frontier Rangers, Lieutenant in Captain Motz' Company of the Northumberland Militia
1790 - Captain, 2nd Company, 3rd Regiment of the Northumberland County Militia.
Based on PA State Tax records for Penns Township, Northumberland County, in 1786-1788, Simon had 200 acres, 2 horses, 2 cows, a grist and hemp mill, and 1 ferry.
Buried in St. John's Cemetery, Chapman Township., Snyder County, PA. A government headstone for military veterans was added in 1936.
