Background

Charles Robert Southwell Dimsdale was born in 1856. He was the son of Robert Dimsdale and Cecilia Jane Southwell.

UK Census Date 1871: Recorded in the household of his grandparents Charles and Jemima Dimsdale, along with his parents and seven siblings in Essendon, Hertfordshire, England. Aged 14.

He gained the title of 7th Baron Dimsdale [Russia, 1769].

Charles married Alice Monk in 1882 in St George, Hanover Square, London.^[2]

His wife Alice passed away in 1886.

He married, secondly, widow Mabel Sophia Henniker (daughter of Sir Bridges Powell Henniker, 4th Bt, and Justina Louisa Hughan) on 2 April 1891 in Chelsea, London.^[3]

UK Census Date 31 March 1901: Living with his wife, four children, a Governess, two visitors and one servant in Essendon Place, Essendon, Hertfordshire. Aged 44.

Occupation: Barrister, Magistrate.

His two sons were killed in the 1st World War.

He died in 1928, aged 72.^[4]

The Barony was inherited by Thomas Edward Dimsdale (1911–1985), High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1974.
