Clemens Adolph Abkemeyer was born on 29 May 1841 in Markkotten Abkemeyer, Mentrup, Hagen, Iburg, Osnabrück, Hannover, Deutscher Bund, son of Hermann Christopher (Apkemeyer) Abkemeyer (1802–~1883) and Maria Elisabeth (Rethmann) Abkemeyer (1805– ).[1]

His siblings were:

His father, Hermann Christopher Abkemeyer, residing in Mentrup, Hagen parish, applied for emigration visa to the United States for himself and the following relatives, which were approved on 9 November 1856:[2]

  2. their daughter Anna Catharina Sophia Abkemeyer, born 5 September 1836,
  3. son Johann Heinrich Abkemeyer, born 4 March 1838,

  5. daughterMaria Engel Abkemeyer, born 22 May 1847,
  6. son Everhard HeinrichAbkemeyer, born 24 January 1850.

Their plan was to settle in New Washington.[2]

Johann Heinrich Abkemeyer and his family emigrated from the Kingdom of Hannover to the United States where they arrived on 14 October 1856.[3]

Clemens died on 30 September 1917 in Washington, Franklin, Missouri, USA, aged 76.
