Susannah “Suckey” Abston was born about 1787 or 1788 in Bedford, Virginia. Suckey was a nickname for Susan or Susannah. There are several documents by family researchers online showing her nickname erroneously as “Luckey”. Guessing this was most likely picked up from transcription errors. She was “Suckey”.
On Sep 22, 1806, she married William Preston. The ceremony was performed by James Moorman, a Baptist minister affiliated with the Little Otter Church in Bedford County, Virginia. Susannah’s name is listed as Suckey in the Marriage Bonds of Bedford County, Virginia.
Although William and Suckey’s marriage is listed in the ‘Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy Vol VI’ for Bedford County, Virginia marriages, they were not affiliated with the Quaker Society of Friends. Information is included in William’s profile.
She passed away on May 11, 1859 from typhoid fever in Bedford County, Virginia. In the Register of Deaths, she is listed as Susan Preston. Her husband, William Preston is shown as deceased (having passed away in 1857 from typhoid fever), and the informant was her son, John F Preston.
William and Susan and buried in the Preston Family Cemetery, located off Route 608 in Huddleston, Virginia.
