Biography

Joseph C. Achey was born in 1825 in Ohio. He died May 11, 1880 when struck by lightening in Henry Township, Henry, Indiana. He had taken refuge under a large elm tree on his farm during a storm.

Son of Jacob P. Achey (1803–1863) and Nancy Deem (1804–1883).

1850 United States Census, Butler, Middletown, Ohio: Joseph P. Achey is head of household (occupation difficult to read - see attached original) age 47, with wife Nancy Achey age 46, and children Joseph, a chair maker age 26, Jeremiah, a painter age 24, Adam, a bartender age 20 and Maria age 17. Also in the home are 7 boarders.
