Carter Adams was born on January 29, 1812, in Upson County, Georgia, United States, son of David Adams (1787–1848) and Mary Johnson (1790–1855).

Carter (age 26) and Mariam Burnett (age 21) were married on November 25, 1838, in Upson County, Georgia.[1] Their children were:

  1. Ann Elizabeth Adams (1843–1904)
  2. Cecelia Ann Francis Adams (1845–1903)
  3. Martha Ellen Adams (1848–1861)
  4. Reuben David Adams (1855–1907)
  5. Zillah Ann Frances Adams (1857–1930)

In 1850, Carter (age 38) and his family remained in Upson County, Georgia.[2]

Carter died on March 30, 1858 in Upson County, Georgia, aged 46. He was buried at the Old Salem Church near his home.[3]
